SANTA’S SECRET GIFTSHOP

On behalf of the Winchester Women’sCivic Club, Toby Madden would like to thank everyone who assisted in preparation andoperation of our 18th Annual Christmas Gift Shop for the children of North Lakeland School District and surrounding areas. We especially want to thank the Winchester Lions Club for their generous donation. The Lions Club has been our staunchest and most steadfast supporter inour Gift Shop and without them we probably would have lots of trouble stayingin existence.

We would like to also thank the Winchester Friends of the Library for entertaining the parents (or whoever brought the children) with punch, coffee and cookies in the library while the children were shopping. We also thank the library for allowing us to disrupt them for three hours.

Toby personally would like to thank allthe club members who shopped, helped set up the “Store” and came back and assisted the younger shoppers, cashiered and wrapped and decorated the gifts.  Again most of all she wants to thank our SHOPPERS, and their parents for bringing them and also for being so patientwhile the children shopped.

This has been a long-standing eventthe second Saturday of December and we certainly hope it continues for many years to come.

AJ and Elf Connie had a great time. AJ's mother told me he had been talking about shopping here all week. AJ came with his list of 24 people, and Elf Connie helped him shop for about 2 hours. Once they were at the wrapping table, AJ said to Elf Connie, "will you be here next year to help me"? Elf Connie said "I hope so". We are not sure who had more fun, Elf Connie or AJ. Merry Christmas, and Happy New Year to all.

2011 Quilt Raffle Drawing

The winner of the quilt this year is Bob Homan from Waunakee, Wisconsin!

Thanks for volunteering! If you look at the Winchester Library, volunteers make a difference -- those who work at the library assisting patrons and getting material ready for the shelves, those who offer their experience working on the quilt and those who give of their time selling raffle tickets, setting up and working book sales, and those who contribute to the bake sales and Cake Walk.

Thanks also for joining the Friends of the Library. When libraries all over the country are stressed during these bad financial times, your support of our Library is so important. So far this year we have 29 memberships with 11 of those as family memberships.

Library Activities -- Presently there are two groups meeting at the Library in addition to the Quilting Group that meets every Wednesday at 10 am. You don't need to be a quilter to join. The experienced quilters are willing to teach.
